First Master's in Petroleum Engineering

"Since December 21, 2015, the Faculty of Engineering of the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) and the country in general have their first four Masters of Science (MSc) in Petroleum Engineering, integrally trained in Mozambique.

Constantino Wilson Nassel, a holder of a degree in Chemical Engineering, was Mozambique's first to successfully complete the program master's degree in Petroleum Engineering at oldest institution of higher education in Mozambique upon defending the dissertation Optimizing recovery potential of gas fields through reservoir life cycle.

The MSc in Petroleum Engineering run by the Faculty of Engineering of the Eduardo Mondlane University is an academic master's comprising eight core subjects, research and technical seminars, and a dissertation as a way of completion of the program. The contents of the master's program focuses primarily on four basic areas, viz. geosciences, drilling systems, reservoir engineering and production engineering. The structure and materials of the  program  content were configured like other masters degrees in Petroleum Engineering at renown institutions in other parts of the World. Thus, graduates have a sufficiently high professional level to compete with graduates of other reputable universities worldwide. The Master's program working language is solely English , in  accordance with some international standards for this training level. Besides Mozambican doctorates,  participated in lecturing of course subjects, renowned teachers from various American universities (Colorado School of Mines, Houston, Texas A & M, Texas Tech, Penn State, Tulsa) took part in lecturing subjects. The Master's program is preceded by a one-year preparatory program for applicants who do not have previous training in oil matters. The graduate program in Petroleum Engineering at EMU started in 2013  under the sponsorship of Anadarko and partners.
